Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2026. Short version: your voice and your text stay on your computer.
What the app does on your computer
- Speech is converted to text on your device by a local AI model. Audio is never saved or uploaded.
- Settings and your optional transcript history are stored only in a folder on your computer. You can turn history off or clear it at any time.
When the app goes online
- Update check: the app downloads a small public file to see whether a new version exists. Nothing about you is sent. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Anonymous usage count: once a day, on your first dictation, the app sends only its version number and whether it runs on Mac or Windows, so we can count how many people use Utterkey. No name, email, ID, words or audio. Switch it off in Settings → General.
- Unlocking Pro: when you enter your email, it is sent to our license service only to find your purchase.
- Downloading speech models: optional models are downloaded from Hugging Face when you choose them.
