Is it really free?
Yes. Personal use is free with no time limit and no dictation limit. Free users see a friendly reminder about Pro about once a week. Pro is a one-time purchase for daily users and anyone using it for work.
Why does my computer warn me when I open it?
Utterkey is an independent app distributed directly rather than through Apple’s store, so macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open it. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click “Open Anyway”. You only do this once. On Windows, click “More info” → “Run anyway”. The install guide shows each step.
Does my voice get uploaded anywhere?
No. Speech recognition runs on your computer. Utterkey only goes online to check for updates, to send an anonymous once-a-day usage count (version and platform only, and you can switch it off), and to verify your purchase when you unlock Pro.
Which apps does it work in?
Any app with a text field: WhatsApp, Messages, Slack, Gmail in your browser, Outlook, Word, Notion, VS Code, Terminal and more.
Which languages?
English works out of the box. Download the free multilingual model in Settings for 99 languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Spanish, French, German, Arabic and Chinese. It can also translate your speech into English.
What do I need?
A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) running a recent macOS, or a Windows 10/11 PC (64-bit), plus about 0.2–0.5 GB of free space for the speech model. The Windows version is a beta: tell us if anything misbehaves.
I bought Pro. How do I unlock it?
Open Utterkey → Utterkey Pro → enter the email you used at checkout. On a new computer, do the same thing. Your license is yours forever.
